It’s hard to believe, but Varnish Cache is 10! On February 22, we’re singing happy birthday to ourselves (now that the famous tune has been declared public domain and fair game, which is a little bit like open source!).
Varnish Cache’s own open source origins are humble, but even early on, Varnish Cache delivered bigger results than its size and reach would have us imagine. Varnish Cache stood alone focusing on web performance - and that mission has not changed. Varnish Cache has grown up in its ten years of existence, boosting the performance of more than 2.2 million websites worldwide - some of which are among the world’s biggest, most influential sites, such as The New York Times, Vimeo, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Die Zeit, Newsday, Whitehouse.gov, Schibsted Media Group and many more.
Varnish Cache continues to do big things, serving up web content faster and decreasing server load. But going from strength to strength has not changed the humble, experimental approach from Varnish Cache’s early days.
Ready to party: Join us!
We figure we need no less than ten months to celebrate this milestone. So for the next ten months, we will feature competitions, campaigns and prizes to highlight the best of Varnish Cache. We will pull out all the stops, to include everything from recognizing the top contributors to Varnish Cache to highlighting the best and most innovative use cases of/for Varnish Cache. The party lasts throughout 2016 - and it wouldn’t be a party without the Varnish Cache open source community taking part all year long. We’ll kick off with a giveaway on Twitter, but that is only the beginning.
Varnish Cache 2016 Birthday Bash
- Twitter giveaway: Simply Tweet your best use case in 140 characters or less to @VarnishCache using #Varnish10years before March 7. The best use cases win Swiss Army knives sporting the Varnish Cache logo (since we like to refer to Varnish as the Swiss Army knife of HTTP).
- Recognizing the contributors: The Varnish Software blog will showcase interviews and features with open source community leaders who have made the biggest impact on Varnish.
- Loads of exciting and interactive stuff to be announced throughout the year - stay tuned to make sure you don't miss a minute of the celebration!
Our Birthday Wish for Varnish Cache
We want Varnish Cache and the community that loves it to continue to grow and deliver on the promise of fast and flexible web performance.
We hope you will join us in celebrating our first ten years by taking part in all or some of the activities above, and most of all, by joining us for Varnish Cache’s next ten exciting years.
